Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Living Leaves products on their own as well as in Garden Kits?
Yes you can buy any of the elements of the Living Leaves Growing System separately from our online shop.

What can be included in a Living Leaves Garden?
A complete Living Leaves Garden Kit includes all the elements shown on the home page and on the linked Living Leaves at a glance.

What is a module?
The term module is used to quantify the amount of growing space in a Living Leaves Garden Kit. Our raised beds and table beds are manufactured in one module (120cm x 120cm) and two module (120cm by 240cm) sizes. Our smallest kits have one module of growing space while a Large Vegetable Garden Kit has16 modules and is suitable for a family of four.

Why do you supply young plants rather than seed only?
We supply young plants as they are ideal for those who have limited time or facilities to grow all their plants from seed. At Living Leaves we understand that while it’s possible to raise your own plants from seed it does take time, space, some know-how and even specialist facilities such as a propagator. We want to help by taking the hassle out of seed sowing and so we deliver directly to your front door healthy young plants that can be planted out immediately. This is ideal for the novice gardener, as it saves time and plants mature faster so can be cropped sooner. All our young plants are grown for us by a leading Soil Association registered organic grower and are delivered to you at the correct time for planting outside..

Does it matter in which month of the year I purchase my Garden Kit?
No you can purchase your Garden Kit at any time. Each kit includes plants for a twelve month period from the date you are ready to accept them, with planting plan and monthly guidance for the whole of that period. For example it works like this. If you buy a Vegetable Garden Kit in time to be able to begin planting in early May, you will receive deliveries of plants that can be grown during the rest of that growing year, such as courgette, broccoli, brassica and leek, plus monthly guidance on how to manage these crops. Plants which are usually planted before May, like potatoes, onions and peas, will be delivered to you ready for planting in the following spring.

Why is crop rotation important?
Crop rotation is hugely important when growing vegetables, especially using the organic growing method, to reduce pest and diseases, improve soil structure and fertility. Read more about rotation on the information pages.

Can I ask you to customise the plants included in my Living Leaves Salad or Vegetable Garden?
Yes you can. Call us to discuss what you would like and we will adjust the selection of plants to suit your needs, where possible.

What is successional planting?
Successional planting is a way of making the most of your growing space by planting more than one crop in the same place in one year. For example an early crop of potatoes, once harvested in July, can be followed be a crop of leeks.

What is the difference between the professional and deluxe beds?
The Deluxe option has longer corner posts with beveled tops plus capped sides. Professional beds don’t.

Delivery - When can I expect delivery?
We aim to deliver all items, excluding plants, within 28 days from the date on which we send you our acceptance of confirmation of acceptance of order and receipt for the goods.

Plants are delivered at the correct planting times and expected delivery dates will be sent to you once you have ordered your garden.
